UIB and our Turkish partner,
IBS Sigorta Brokerlik Hizmetleri AS, attended the 13th Annual ICCI
2007 conference, held at the Istanbul
“Lutfi Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Centre” on 30-31 May.
Since the inaugural conference some 12 years ago this event
has grown over that period to become a key conference for the energy and
related industries, including the newer alternate and sustainable energy
providers.
This year’s conference theme was Sustainability and Globalisation in the Energy: Efficiency, Emissions
and New Markets Constitutions. The first keynote speech was given by Assi.
Prof. Dr. Sami Demirbilek, former Undersecretary for Ministry of Energy and
Natural Resources, who spoke about “the reorganization of Turkish Energy Market
and related works in progress.”
Running alongside and in conjunction with the conference was
an exhibition by 50 energy industry companies. The exhibitors ranged from
Turkish engineering companies through to a number of international blue chip
companies like Rolls Royce and Shell, with IBS/UIB Turkey being the only insurance
broking house present.
The IBS/UIB Turkey stand was staffed by representatives from
IBS and UIB London and proved to be a very popular amongst the conference and
exhibition attendees. IBS and UIB received many enquiries during the two day
conference/exhibition and certainly intend to be present at the 2008 event.
Sevhan Gok Kahya, IBS General Manager, commented, “many
people visited our stand and wanted either information or consultancy about
their projects and I believe we will be able to secure some very good business
in the near future. I would like to thank our reinsurance manager Alper Aydinalp and his staff for all their hard work
and enthusiasm in making this event such a success. In addition, I would like to thank Mark
Randall from UIB London who provided great support during the duration of the
event.”
Mark
Randall, Divisional Director, UIB Non-Marine and Energy, said, “this was a
really worthwhile investment by IBS/UIB and would like to give a huge vote of
thanks to my friends at IBS who made the visit so successful and indeed
enjoyable.”
